Maegan Stephens

Listening and Business Communication
Communication Expert. Co-author of Adaptive Listening™. Senior Director, Communication Services at Duarte, Inc.

Maegan became a communication nerd back when she was a competitive public-speaker in high school and college (yes, that’s a thing). She knew at 16 years old she wanted to help people become better communicators.

She earned her “10,000+ hours” as a communication expert with a combination of book smarts and street smarts. After sharpening her research skills with a PhD in Communication Studies from The University of Texas at Austin, Maegan transitioned from academia to industry and is now a communication consultant for individuals and teams at the world’s top brands. She’s written for and coached Fortune 50 executives, TED speakers, start-up founders, and aspiring leaders.

She continues to combine theory and practice as the co-creator of the Adaptive Listening methodology. When she’s not researching, writing, or consulting, she’s leading a team of writers, strategists, and coaches at Duarte, Inc. to transform the way people communicate.

After work, she’s cheering on her beloved Detroit sports teams atop her Peloton from San Jose, California, where she lives with her fellow Detroit-ish native husband, Kevin Lao.
